He was a farmer. He depended on the export of his products.Listen you big dummy. The very first law passed by the first congress was the tariff act of 1789. President Washington signed it.
Back at you dude.
The Tariff Act of 1789, was the first major Act passed in the United States under its present Constitution of 1789 and had two purposes as stated in Section I of the Act which reads as follows;
"Whereas it is necessary for that support of government, for the discharge of the debts of the United States, and the encouragement and protection of manufactures, that duties be laid on goods, wares and merchandise:"

All that is irrelevant to the present
The new states were broke..... they had nothing to tax except imports.
Your reliance on past situations that no longer exist render your arguments worthless
The year is not 1790, it is 2018

Bert, In all seriousness you are woefully misinformed. Try reading up on US history. Here is one you might get started with:
Free Trade, Protectionism, and the Founding Fathers

That's right; America's FoundingFathers were hard-core protectionists. In fact, the central reason for the creation

you misunderstand.
Being protectionist and being exporters are not the same.
Jefferson went to war with the Barbary pirates to protect the global trade of the young nation.
That is completely different than financing a government and protecting American producers with tariffs.
We no longer need the protection of tariffs. We have superior technology and ability to protect us.

We no longer need the protection of tariffs. We have superior technology and ability to protect us. Who is "we"? You have turd in your pocket?
The 2016 Trump election says otherwise. Did you cry on election night when Hilary, your globalist twin sister, lost?
