Former President Barack Obama terminated the organization in 2016 after the administration found it had not been following 21 federal standards.
DeVos was able to reinstate ACICS after a federal judge ruled the Obama administration unlawfully ignored relevant evidence in making the 2016 decision.
A judge ruled that the previous administration failed to consider 36,000 pages of relevant evidence before making its decision to withdraw ACICS's recognition as an accreditor and remanded the case back to the Secretary.
DeVos is working on a more 'long-term' decision regarding the status of ACICS.

Going by the article, DeVos had no choice but to reinstate this organization.
I have no idea if this is good or bad.
“A judge ruled that the previous administration failed to consider 36,000 pages of relevant evidence before making its decision “
Standard Operating Procedure for Obumbles!
It depends on how you feel about for-profit colleges.
I don’t know, if said colleges actually educate their students, I would have no problem, but higher education in this country is seldom about education and more often about indoctrination of students.
Mostly it was the colleges trying to get rid of the low cost online colleges. The reality is that at many $60,000 a year colleges you can take several classes online. But you still have to pay the money.
African studies is not worth accrediting no matter what college you go to.
36,000 pages == 72 reams of paper, IIRC.
Online courses are NOT cheap.
“Right “ to education is not in the Constitution. Better education was obtained in 1-12 Schoolhouses and school in the “woods”/”home school”.
Need some context as to what the organization is. As per wiki:
The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) is a non-profit education corporation that is recognized by the United States Department of Education as an independent and autonomous national accrediting body. ACICS was established in 1912. It accredited 245 institutions of higher education offering undergraduate and graduate diplomas and degrees in both traditional formats and through distance education. ACICS is incorporated in Virginia and operates from offices in Washington, D.C. Concerns about the quality of its accreditation led the U.S. Department of Education to withdraw the accreditor’s recognition in 2016 but the decision was remanded to Secretary of Education DeVos in March 2018 for further review. While that review is under way, the organization’s accreditation remains valid.
They don’t just accredit for profit schools. It sounds like they were being put out of business for a small sement of their work.
Obamas administration was an absolute sh$t show.
The for-profit colleges are less likely to try and indoctrinate.
Yeah...so much so that it's still stinking up America... Almost everyday we get another whiff of it in the news...
Last year, Ga Tech was offering an online Master's Degree course in Computer Science for $7,500.
I'd say that was great "bang for the buck".
Other online tuition rates:
Are you so sure about that?
It is a fantastic program.
I paid 3k for an online English course at a Colorado state U. Not cheap. Im paying out of state maybe thats why. 3 hour credit for 3k.
To some degree I am.
The ones I am familiar with are more akin to glorified trade schools.
I have a little experience with those types, they seemed very willing to push the idea that workers should be unionized.
which, IMO, is never a good thing.
