To: left that other site
After I hiked the old Nike Missile Base with my pitbull.

There's an old Nike site atop a hill in Brea, just east of where I live in North Orange County, Calif. The road leading up to it is Site Drive, but probably few, if any, of the thousands who live in the area know why the street was so named.

I hiked up there in 1976, and the buildings were still intact, but I don't know if they are today.

There used to be several Nike sites in the area before JFK's Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara closed them all.

Many years ago, my Dad took me up to the one in the Blue Hills. It was still operational, so we could only go up to the gate.

I tried to find it years later, but it is now a Boy Scout Camp.

The one on North Hill in Needham is now an Assisted Living Facility.

They were all around Boston like a wheel.

We used to have Nike sites next to Crossbay Blvd in Queens and the Belt Parkway in B’klyn, NYC. No buildings though, those guys lived in tents. I’m sure there were others around the city also, but those are two that I remember. We also had gun emplacements at Ft Tilden and a machine gun tower ae the entrance to Jamaica Bay. That tower survived well into the 90s IIRC. I left Fun City in 02
