It is stupid for Giuliani to even mention the President’s pardon power.

Giuliani didn't bring up the question of pardoning. He was asked point-blank, and he gave his opinion, and it became a headline. It is too bad that politicians are driven to obfuscation, vagueness , weasel words and generalities because of reporters who will take an answer to a question as a policy or explicit strategy and turn the answer into something it wasn't.

The correct response would have been to say it was an irellevant question because the President has done nothing wrong. The question was a trap and he fell for it.
