3) it’s not for foreigners to tell us who our ambassador will or should be. We are a sovereign country. If you wish to have diplomatic relations with us you will deal with the ambassador we appoint.

You’re correct to the extent that they are able to require whom it “will or should” be.
But they may always reject a proposed Ambassador, and they may always expel one whom they don’t like.
