A Memphis, Tennessee homeowner unleashed firepower from his AK-47 against two burglars who had broken into his home on Friday evening. Both burglars are now dead.
According to a local CBS affiliate, 28-year-old Azell Witherspoon and 17-year-old Demond Robinson were shot and killed after the homeowner, who asked not to be identified, and a friend arrived at his house to discover the two men rummaging through his house.
After returning home from the barber shop around 7pm, the homeowner said that he saw his door pried open and heard his dog barking.
"I see my house being ransacked and the dog was still going hysterical in the cage," the homeowner told WMC. He then went on to say that one of the two intruders noticed the homeowner and his friend and said, "Hey, they are here."
“He picked up his weapon, turned around and points them at me,” the homeowner told the Fox 13. “Two pistols.”
“A 7.62x39 122-grain JHP (typical Russian round used in most AK variants), fired at close range, is going to pass through a man, through the house framing, and end up somewhere “out there” beyond the shooter’s sight.”
Umm, not quite as powerful as you’re depicting it. Ballistics of an AK-47 round is about the same as a Winchester 30-30. While both are powerful to take down intruders at close range neither are as powerful as you describe.
Story was, he retrieved the AK from a closet after being confronted. The right weapon for self defense is the one on hand during a “contingency”.

I read somewhere that most crime is committed by a small fraction of the population, that is the same people keep committing multiple crimes again and again. So if that’s true, and it seems to be, then greasing these two scumbags saved the community a great deal of grief and the taxpayers a lot of money. The guy who killed them should get a bounty.
I've head this opinion stated as a fact so many times, when all it does with a hard core criminal is alert him as to your location. You see an intruder in your house don't give any warning at all just shoot.

They were fine young men, getting their life together, both were trying to graduate from middle school this year and think about going to college before their futures were stolen from them by this heartless homeowner.

You would think with more & more homeowners shooting the home invasion thugs that they would get the message. But they amazingly don’t. Get a job, learn a trade......... Memphis is just a no go zone. Haven’t shopped there in years & years.
My husband is flying home & lands in Memphis around lunchtime. Will be happy when he safely like into the driveway.

If your just coming home to find these most likely several time convicted Preps, your Carry piece would be you most likely choice. Unless you’d been to a Shooting Range that allows other types of weapons and you were practicing.
You’d not have time to get to your gun safe where you would store your Big fire power. Carry piece is the first available weapon for me.
If at home I’m like most others would chose my 12 gauge first. With CCW piece as back up.

Homeowner was NOT at shooting range. His high powered Riffle would not have just been laying around. It would have been in a gun safe. Because if it was, the PREPS would have picked it up first.
