Breaking News! We all die someday. All empires end at some point; and eventually, like the dino's, we too will meet an end. At least most of us will if we're lucky. Humanity may get a second chance. Maybe.

Civilizations end after they get rich and lazy, and when their neighbors are still poor and hungry.

Well we just missed it ending last POTUS election and that’s probably no exaggeration. Do we even have to guess had Hitlery succeeded in stealing the election from Trump that Iran would have had nukes not soon after? And they probably would have used them on Israel and then all hell would have broken loose not to mention the Norks would have been missile testing without any trouble until they got them, probably bought from Hitlery herself.

So, NE “professors” claim to The Atlantic that “climate change’ will undo mankind?

Yep, absolutely no hint of bias there

Starting with the early Roman Empire, (probably earlier with Egypt and Greece) there seem to be cycles that last approximately 500 years.....rebirth/development, greatness, collapse. Incredible advancement has happened from about 1500 (exploration), maybe spiraling out of the cycle since the pinnacle of man on the moon. Is Western/European civilization entering collapse, just as Rome did from the 5th century until about 1000 AD?

There’s a far piece between the collapse or destruction of an individual culture and an end to all “human civilization”.

They called these societies “Exo-civilizations” and learning from their mistakes could help us prepare for climate change’s effect.

Uh...given that we haven’t found any such exo-civilizations, how are supposed to learn from their mistakes?

Personally, I think colonizing the galaxy is the best way to ensure the survival of Humanity...in some form. I say “in some form” because each colony will likely develop into its own subspecies of Human. Over time, some of these could come to appear distinctly inhuman.

Civilization on Earth will probably be killed off by one of three ways, scientists have concluded.

So long, as men use reason to preserve a division-of-labor, capitalist society, and are free and motivated to think and to build for the future, the body of scientific and technological knowledge at the disposal of mankind will grow from generation to generation, as will the supply of capital equipment. On this basis, man can steadily expand his physical power over the world and thus enjoy an ever greater supply of economically useable natural resources. There is no reason why, under the continued existence of a free and rational society, the supply of such natural resources should not go on growing as rapidly as in the past or even more rapidly.

When the Roman Empire fell, not all civilization ended. Lots of things went very wrong, and the level of accomplishment of the great civilization fell apart.
