What is your specific objection to men who wish to commit to a form of devotion involving exemplary behavior? It is in the honor tradition such as knighthood or priesthood.

I have no objection to it in general, but I wonder if the concept is somewhat outdated. We don't have Presidents or Congressmen that could carry such honor; priests and other clergy do not; we haven't had knights around since the Middle Ages. The closest example of a profession that might carry such honor through example would've been those professional soldiers and sailors at our military academies--in recent years, even those examples are tarnished.

I do separate your actions while actively serving in such a role, and what you might do once retired or departed from the service. It's been my experience though that by serving in such roles (and in the military in general), that one does have a lot more respect for the traditions of the military and our country, once they've truly served it.
