Our town has us separate aluminum, glass, cardboard, etc. but the guys just dump everything together in the back of the regular garbage truck.
We don’t go nuts recycling anymore.
BFI, and other trash haulers are the ones lobbying for "recycling", and for politicians it's like catnip. Completely win-win. The idiot constituents fall for it, and lobbyist grease their chubby palms. And press never spills the beans.
