In the wake of recent senseless acts of violence, especially in schools, the mental health watchdog Citizens Commission on Human Rights International (CCHR) urged state authorities and educators not to adopt mental health screening in schools in the false hope that it could prevent the violence... the newer antidepressants boost serotonin levels in the brain and in rare cases, they can contribute to extreme violence, murder and suicide, particularly in the first few weeks they are taken.... Dr. Effrem stated, There are so many problems with the foundation of these programs, it is difficult to know where to begin. Lets start with the admitted subjectivity of mental illness diagnostic criteria...

CCHR are the Scientologists.
That’s depressing news.
That’s too bad.
But the premise appears to have merit. Over diagnosis and over prescribing of psychiatric meds can lead to violence.
The over-diagnosis alone should give us pause. As we all know, The Soviets used psychological diagnosis to imprison political opponents and suppress any activity against the Sate.
I don't have the figures but say it's 0.01 percent of users are affected thusly. Sounds like a small, acceptable number and therefore, the drugs are released to market.
When the user population becomes large (enormous) that 0.01 % becomes a population and not a point.
Maybe it is that the meds provide an excuse to act out and are not the cause of the personality disorder in the first place. Lack of discipline as a child is nearly 100% of the reason people act out.
Thanks for the warning...
Wonder what percentage of liberals are on med?
Scientologists. Good grief! A lot more people would be dead without antidepressants.
The main point is not to indiscriminately disparage anti depressant use.
The point is that leftists are using psychiatric diagnoses and those on anti-depressants as a rationale and pretext to deny these people their 2nd amendment rights.
This will cause many to forgo treatment including anti-depressants which can be used in the treamtent of conditions other than depression.
It is too bad that the source of the information seems to be obscuring a valid point.
CCHR is a Scientology anti-psychiatry front organization.
I wouldn't be surprised. Sounds like the body's typical rebound effect. Take too much antacid, and your stomach compensates by making more stomach acid.
When I started Paxil my brain suddenly told me to throw myself from a moving vehicle. The thought lasted for 1-2 months and occurred whenever I was in a car. Luckily that went away and now 95% of my anxiety is gone. I could only imagine if it triggered full blown schizophrenia. Also throw in the fact that an adult has much higher impulse control than a teen.
Exactly right. Since we’re all crazy nobody should have a gun.
Except for the cops. Bad guys don’t count— though sometimes they’re cops too.
Or should I say “mal-adjusted” cops, who from time to time feel the urge to “act-out?” Don’t judge; it’s a health issue.
It’s a very complex health issue—even democrat brains are complicated. Not everybody reacts the same way to a particular drug. For example, I hate marijuana, but I love me some paxil! (There was this shadow-wolf that used to follow me around...)
The difference between me and the average kid taking those meds is wide though. I was in my early 30s when I called up the shrink. For another thing, it was a shrink and not a GP who diagnosed the depression and followed closely when I started. In fact we switched several times to related meds due to side effects.
There are always side effects and close monitoring is critical. But, I doubt the immature, developing brains being medicated with these drugs by second and third-tier government employees and contractors are being monitored very closely.
In fact you might argue that much of it’s not medicine at all— it’s crowd-control.
Ritalin, too.
Damn, who knew that over\wrongly prescribing Rx might be a BAD thing.
I mean, w/ all our KNOW-HOW on the brain/body chemistry, inner-working, etc. *rolls eyes*
