The individual gun lock safes, that only unlock at the owner’s touch or code entry seem pretty safe to me. And you keep it right by your side. We don’t keep our guns locked when it’s just us, but when little kids visit, we do. Except my husband’s concealed carry, which he almost always has on hi person.
I'm in California, and you have to lock up your guns if children are present. I have a gun safe in my nightstand, it unlocks with my palm and fingers typing a combination. Very simple and fast. Also unlocks with a key, which I never use. My long guns have a trigger lock which is a pain because a key is necessary. I hate the law but it does keep the guns safe from my grandkids.
A problem with biometric gun safes is that they can fail, and of course they will fail at the most inopportune time.
Texas and Florida both have child access laws...
The traditional rifle over the fireplace could be kept loaded, but was safely out of the reach of children.
