Spanish is an oppressive language.

Specifically, it is the language of the conquistadores, imposed upon the native populations of Central and South America.

The author brings up Chicanos as a thing and how Americans look down upon them. Chicano was a pejorative used by the Mexicans to designate these cultural half-breeds as only being “a little Mexican”.

Back in the 60s I was a student teacher at a school in Fresno, Calif. The teacher had invited the black muslims to speak to the class (it was a predominately black elementary school). Anyway the black muslim encouraged the kids to embrace Arabic and Spanish instead of the “white devil slave language” of English. The historical ignorance was breathtaking. Those Arabs in Africa and Spanish in the Americas weren’t there to see the sights.

Spanish is not an "oppressive" language.

Any more than English is because English-speaking Americans conquered native American populations in North America.

There is no difference.
