My recollection of Pres Nixon is that, yeah he was shady, my parents thought he was crooked going back to when he was Ike’s VP, but he was a very smart guy. Surely he was smart enough to realize he had the re election in the bag, especially after the Dems nominated Sen McGovern. Why would someone as intelligent as Nixon be dumb enough to get involved with what amounted to a 3rd rate burglary committed by the type of incompetent crooks you’d see on Cops?
My #21 above somewhat answers this question. WATERGATE WAS BLOWN A WAY OUT OF PROPORTION! The Dems and their corrupt media saw a chance to criminalize the Republican Party - at which they succeeded in taking control of the Congress for over 20 years.
If - as the Dems say now - 'Spygate' is no big thing, then how could Watergate be more than a parking violation?
I am no defender of Richard Nixon - didn't much care for him. But he appears a piker next to this 'bamster guy.
Richard Nixon didn’t know about the burglary when it happened. The infamous 8 minutes of blank tape was recorded well after the burglary and it was when his aides told him that they had done it. Nixon then kept denying he knew about it and eventually the tape came out and showed that he did at some point know about it. But he was never involved in the planning of it.
G. Gordon Liddy swears up and down that Nixon didn’t have a clue prior. He did find out about it afterwards and it lied later.
I’d say Bammy was in on this starting day 1.
