So will I. In the Fall of 1951 my carrier, the USS Antietam (CV 36) was on its way to Korea. We sailed by the Arizona. All hands were on deck. As we passed the wreckage we gave a hand salute. The entire flight deck and hanger decks were full of sailors in their whites. As we sailed past the Arizona we held our salute. All you could hear was our ship, the seagulls, and lapping water. After we were dismissed most of us still remained on deck. We younger men talked to the career sailors who were in WWII. And being sailors most of them served in the Pacific during WWII. In fact, in Korea those old WWII guys saved our asses with their experience and attitude. I'll never forget these men as well as those my age way back then. After our tour we came back to the US and stopped in Honolulu. We passed the Arizona again. The same eerie and quiet broken by the sea birds and the swish of our wake. Again there was a sense of reverence that most people who have not served, especially in a combat zone can ever understand. In a way I pity them. And I will always hate and despise those who treat our country like it is a cheap trollop and the cause of all the world's problems, and who hate those of us who served and love our country. Those of us on Free Republic know the feelings most of us old men living in their dotage, with memories of America's greatness, honor and decency in the world. And it is a shock for this old man to see the streets full of metrosexuals, perverts, hate filled minorities and border jumpers, and the streets of our cities full of layabouts, drug addled thugs, and fat, tattooed women. Our young people wander our sidewalks and fill our businesses in a state of incomprehension because they have their noses buried in the fantasy boxes called smart phones. Yes, my friends. On this Memorial Day we are all far, far away from the Arizona and what it is, was, and is falling into rusted and brittle steel, just as our body politic is.

You Sir, are a gentleman. I agree with every word, and could not have stated the same as eloquently. We are witnessing our nation’s last days. When those of us who truly love our country are gone, those left will take her into the abyss..very sad.
