...and I still have a family member that is a cop in the UK. The last time I posted on a “free speech in the UK” story he tried to explain away the laws as “nobody really does jail time” - the fact that these laws are about intimidation and suppression of the truth were of no concern.

He has, in the past, been put in solitary confinement. He explains it in his video at the Oxford Union (who remarkably invited him to speak). I assume it will be the same. Terrible, nonetheless.
