Petula sang a good version.
I was actually thinking of the one done by Chris Montez from ‘66. It was sort of jazzy, as was common in popular music from those days. Lots of hand clapping, percussion and even some whistling. Chris sang in a high tenor voice, almost a falsetto.
The first appearance I remember here was 1957 (10 years old,) on the Mickey Mouse Club.
