Also, the AG can designate at will. If he did, the normal thing would be to reveal as little about ongoing investigations as possible, downplaying them to avoid alerting subjects.

That's quite true.

But would it surprise anyone who has been a long observer of Washington if what actually happens in the DOJ re the spying on Trump and the abuse of FISA is exactly nothing until the IG hands in his report 15 months from now?

"would it surprise anyone... if what actually happens is exactly nothing?"

Sadly, no.

We are all used to the corruption of the justice system by the Clintons and the Dems, as well as cowardly Republicans afraid to rock the boat, or getting a cut of the graft.

But I am encouraged by what I see. If honor and integrity were restored to the DoJ, I believe that it would play out like this - careful investigations done without publicity.

I also don't believe that the political impact of these scandalous crimes could possibly have been missed, or the importance of these midterm elections. That is why I would anticipate that the public rollout would naturally be laid out in a media campaign, during the election season - which happens to kick off around now, after the primaries, and into the general.

Everything is showing up right on cue (IG Report, witnesses, document releases) for a string of blockbuster Congressional hearings, every week in June.

I anticipate criminal charges, so that when we get into the height of the campaign (Sep/Oct), the really big developments can hit. I don't know what they will be, but a competent strategist would save some big ones for then.

I think it is very necessary to preserve the rule of law, and our constitutional liberties from being surreptitiously undermined, that the abusers of office from the Obama Administration be punished - or we might never have the chance again. So I don't mind at all a bit of strategic timing.

It really looks to me that they know the big picture in the White House, the AG's office, and the Oversight Committees; and that they have the goods on the wrongdoers - and they have the balls to follow through.

That is probably the key question that you are getting at - do they have the backbone to prosecute and convict? If I am right, I anticipate that this scandal should move into open criminal investigation or charges in June, and snowball from there.
