When conspirators are conspiring, they trust each other. When the conspiracy fails, they blame each other and go into CYA mode. Once an investigation is launched, an orange jump-suited Comey, Clapper, or other low-level operative will start spilling their guts to protect themselves. No failed conspiracy can stay secret.
No honor among thieves. Impossible to keep that many people silent. They have done a remarkable job so far, but with all the heat on them now, their exposure becoming more imminent, eventually someone is going to crack. And from there it will snowball.
