Perhaps you were unaware that he was born in Israel and English is his second language. Try this speech he gave to the South Carolina Tea Party. I was expecting skepticism and muted applause, but these southerners (that northerners like to sneer at as born-and-bred bigots) gave him a rousing welcome:

A speech is more like an essay in form, which he’s very good at. Whereas an interview is free form and it just didn’t seem to work with his intellect. It struck me because before I heard him I’d been thinking “this guy ought to be on the radio.” Afterwards I figured he should stick with what he does best.
