Why Former Clinton Pollster Mark Penn Opposes the Russia Investigation
National Review ^ | 5/21/2018 | ALEXANDRA DESANCTIS

‘What’s unprecedented here is the fuzziness of the accusation of Russian collusion,’ Penn says.

In January 1998, longtime Democratic pollster and strategist Mark Penn hunkered down with President Bill Clinton, intending to help the administration ride out the storm of a pending independent-counsel investigation.

These days, Penn, still a leading voice on the left, is speaking out against the special-counsel investigation into President Donald Trump and Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 election — opposing it for much the same reason that he opposed Ken Starr’s investigation in 1998.

“I worked with President Clinton through impeachment,” Penn tells National Review in an interview. “And I felt passionately throughout that experience that the investigation weighed so heavily on the president and his ability to carry out the job that America just wasted a year, for nothing really. That had a powerful impact on how I regard this.”

Penn had worked with Clinton since the 1994 midterms, which swept Republicans into control of Congress; he served as a key pollster and, eventually, one of the president’s most influential advisers. In 2000, the Washington Post wrote that no pollster before Penn had ever become “so thoroughly integrated into the policymaking operation” of a presidential administration.

Because it’s not working? What do I win?

I suspect Penn would also like to work again in a future election and realized he’s on the wrong side of a widening gap.

I saw him on FNC today and I think you nailed it.

He didn’t cut Mueller or the FBI any slack.

Another thing: He probably knows Dick Morris pretty well and sees what he’s done and figures “why not”?

But with Trump, isn’t this the point? The RATs and RINOs want to “make him waste his time,” because that’s their hope that he will be ineffective and loose in 2020.

Well, he's not the only one who opposed it. Bill's good friend, the President of the United States, did too.

Russians, Chinese, Iranians, Arabs, Brits, Africans etc have attempted at times to influence American elections.

We can turn the tables on the sociopaths running the Democrat party and ‘help’ them by investigating all their people running for President.

Republicans can start ‘protecting’ Democrat Senators and House members from undue influence from foreigners... Embed some spies in Democrat campaigns just in case they've been targeted. Do what they did. The only reason Mark Penn is raising doubts is because democrats are out of power and he doesn't want US to do to democrats what they did to us.

We also need to investigate all democrats and leak dirt we find on them to the press... that's MUCH easier from inside the campaign... just ask ‘em.

***Washington Post wrote that no pollster before Penn had ever become “so thoroughly integrated into the policymaking operation” of a presidential administration***

Except Dick Morris... but that isn't my point right now.

Just to play a bit of 'devil's advocate' - what if some who post here are correct and Trump has turned Mueller to investigate Hildebeest for... whatever?

My suspicion hackles are stimulated when I see a Clintonista turn on the boot that feeds them. Opposing the Beest is not the smoothest road towards long life and a happy retirement... although Morris did do likewise. BUT, what if Penn is anticipating some Mueller mud splattering on Hildy?

Probably an idea generated in the Horse Latitudes... but, for the sake of argument with the devil...

They don’t get it. President Trump has everything. He is just using theater and other sources of the information to come out. He is not speculating in his tweets.

The word spying has already had an impact on the generic polling. The dems are avoiding that word like the plague.

The fake news media is ignoring the scandal because they can’t explain it away and no one is taking seriously their spin planting a spy in the Trump campaign was for his own benefit. If the FBI did it to protect him from the Russians, why didn’t it place on in Hillary’s campaign as well?

What happened was illegal surveillance of a political party campaign and all the evidence obtained from it is fruit of the poisoned tree. Trump’s attorneys to shut down any questions might ask by pointing out he can’t be sure his work is legally clean.

The politics of this is far more important than the legal side and the optics look terrible for the Deep State, the fake news, the Democrats and Mueller. They’re not trying to find out the truth about Russia but to bring down the President by any means, crooked or fair.

By playing fast and loose with the rules, the anti-Trump coup plotters hoisted themselves on their own petard. They walked right into the very trap they meant to spring on Trump. I’m not sheding any tears for their plight. What goes around comes around.

Likewise, why didn’t they inform Trump? That’s the key point on our side.

At the time the witch hunted started, I wondered why the donkeys just didn’t pack their bags and go home after they lost the election. It doesn’t make any sense to me to go through all this to coverup just a few dirty tricks. It is something bigger.

The left went into full meltdown when Trump won, but its leaders could have told everybody to go home and fight in 4 years. Is it just a big temper tamper driving this or is it something more? If so, what is the something more?

Iran deal?
Immigration?
Spying on Americans?
High crimes and misdemeanors for 8 years?
