I think by now, Nunes knows EXACTLY what he is looking for. He doesn't have to read through hundreds of pages, I'll bet he has a few questions in his mind, and has a good idea where to find the answers. He is a pretty sharp guy, and he is playing the game with an edge we are not used to on our side.
Did you hear the interview with Nunes (Fox?) when they asked him about the invitation from the DOJ to go over on Friday night? (The one they rejected?)
Here is the way Dan Bongino laid it out, and I agree 100%...
The New York Times is running cover for the Dems, and they all realize that when the IG report comes out, the "source" (Stefan Halper) is going to be named, and the house of cards is going to be down flat on the ground for their "Russian Collusion" narrative. (It has been dead for everyone but the most rabid Trump haters and low information citizens)
This is entering the next phase that is going to be very damaging for the Left. Heads ARE going to roll. So the Dems and the NYT want to get out front of this and set the narrative (just like we LET them for Benghazi) because that DID work well for them. They opened a box, and we fell right into it. When the real truth came out, it was pooh-poohed by the Leftist Media, and they said "Ahh, that's old news. Everyone already knows all about it. And it died a general death across the country as an issue, even though we kept it alive.
So...they want to set the table and soften the blow when the real information comes out in the IG report so they leak the information about Halper, and did everything they could without naming Halper. They said the equivalent of "We can't tell you his name, but his father-in-law was Ray Cline who worked in the CIA during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was born on June 4, 1944, but...to protect him, we cannot tell you his name."
Now the name is out. (Many of us knew this back in March thanks to Dan Bongino who collated articles from places like the Daily Caller with Chuck Ross, etc so it was easier to communicate why it was him)
To do this, they chose to do it on a Data Dump Friday (usually the day bad news is released for the least impact) so they would get a twofer.
They would invite Nunes and Gowdy over Friday night. Come on over...we can look at some stuff, maybe have a few beers...and Nunes asked if they would get the documents...when they said NO, Nunes said "Okay...See ya."
See...the DOJ wanted to get the name of the "source" out on Friday, and they hoped that if Nunes and Gowdy came over, they could blame the leak on them and damage their credibility. They would get a TWOFER. Get the identity of the person out there, and jab a thumb in Nunes's eye.
Nunes saw right through it an had the STONES to go on television and SAY that was what he expected them to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Things are different. We have a President who won't roll over, and we have a Chair of the House Intelligence Committee who is like no other Congressman we have seen in a while...he isn't going to let go, and he isn't backing down. He simply is not playing the game they have always expected conservatives to play...turn around in supplication and invite them to tape a "Kick Me" sign on their backs.
This is quite different.
I believe you only need a SCIF for TS/SCI documents. You don't need a SCIF for SECRET data. I don't think we know the level of classification for these documents and we don't know if these documents have been over classified. We do know that the FBI and the DOJ have already been caught redacting incriminating parts of documents that should not have been redacted.
So I I think by now, Nunes knows EXACTLY what he is looking for.
I agree. I think Nunes will look at the unreacted stuff along with Coats at DNI and they will determine which documents they want Trump to declassify. And Trump will agree to declassify those documents.
