Blankenship Says He’ll Run Third-Party In West Virginia Senate Race
Talking Points Memo ^ | May 21, 2018 | Cameron Joseph

Don Blankenship isn’t done being a thorn in the side of the GOP.

The ex-con former coal baron announced Monday morning that he plans to run as the Constitution Party’s nominee for Senate, a move that could damage his former party’s chances at defeating Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) if he’s able to actually get on the ballot.

He’s rich and powerful and conservative and frankly, would proabably laugh at Soros. But, the other factor is he’s pissed. He believes that Manchin is the reason he got convicted, in a way he felt was wrong and unfair. So, he’s pissed at Manchin and has enough money to throw as much mud at Manchin as he can. He may just drop out before the general but spend enough to trash Manchin so badly he’s destroyed.

Yes, we all hate Soros here. Nothing to like at all. But, we can’t paint him as the all-powerful boogeyman when there are many other very nasty and powerful justifications for people’s actions.

Good recap thank you; and what boggles the mind is that she got that many write-in votes to get within the margin of cheating. Lived there mid-90s; the outcome really surprised me.

I take it that West Virginia doesn’t have a sore-loser law.

What's a "sore-loser law"? I never saw that term before. And what states *do* have it?

"Sore loser laws" prohibit a candidate who loses one party's primary for senate, for example, from running for that same office in the general election, either as a candidate for another party or as an independent. Just about all states have them.

Blankenship hates Manchin. JMO, it’s an excuse for him to run ads blasting Manchin with a bit more leeway on the libel/slander laws.
