My experience with IGs is that they will defend the institution regardless. It just goes with the territory.

Wouldn't the IG, if he is such a stand up man, be just as disgusted as we are with the lawlessness of the FBI and the DOJ and want them cleaned up.

I keep hearing how the reputation of the FBI and DOJ have been sullied, he could go a long way to bring them back to some former time when they were dependable to follow the law, or was there ever such a time?

The various OIGs are established separately from their agencies by Congress. They’re like corporate auditors many are familiar with. Financial audits are exactly what IGs mostly do. Actions on their findings are always up to the agencies and Congress.

It is an unconscious bias/restraint that wishes to preserve the institution for the long-term. They don't want to destroy the institutions in order to save them. They are the products of those institutions. The reality is that no institution can investigate themselves objectively.
