Current and former officials apparently so fearful that an FBI informants identity and role would be outed by congressional Republicans confirmed both to the New York Times and the Washington Post in an attempt to offer their own narratives first. Both outlets offered details that readily identify the informant but do not name him, citing concerns for his safety and warnings from U.S. intelligence officials.
The details, however, match a person described in the Daily Caller as Stefan Halper, a Cambridge professor and longtime Washington, D.C. fixture who worked for three Republican administrations and has links to U.S. and British intelligence.
The Times and Post are the first outlets claiming to have confirmed his identity, and to describe him in such detail as to match the description of Halper.
The accounts also indicate the FBI lied about when they first began surveilling the Trump campaign, or might have done so, without any particular intelligence.
FBI officials have said they began investigating the Trump administration on July 31, 2016, after stolen Democratic National Committee emails were released on July 22, 2016, prompting Australian officials to come forward with information they received from Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos months earlier.
Officials sold this version of events last year to the Times, which wrote on December 31, 2017, in a piece titled How the Russia Inquiry Began: A Campaign Aide, Drinks and Talk of Political Dirt:
when leaked Democratic emails began appearing online, Australian officials passed the information about Mr. Papadopoulos to their American counterparts, according to four current and former American and foreign officials with direct knowledge of the Australians role.
However the problem with that account is that the FBI informant had approached Trump campaign adviser Carter Page before that email release on July 22...

Heads-on-pikes sends a “better” message.
I've seen screen prints of the contracts with Department of Defense who paid Halper for "research and analysis". I've seen expanded versions of the same showing where he has been paid nearly $1 million since 2012 for various "research" again through DoD.
The thoughts that come to mind are, knowing the initial requests and approval processes involved, why isn't anyone researching Stefan Halper's work for DoD? There has to be a long list of folks who sign-off on a procurement like that. Talk to those folks, hopefully some of them are in uniform and not just civilian contractors.
Follow the money honey.
DOJ said that releasing such information would put lives at risk and endanger national security.
Like you can ever believe them? Stefan Halper was outed by name last March by an article in the Daily Caller by a writer by the name of Ross. The New York Lies and Compost should have referenced his work in their articles which of course they didn't. There are some great conservative investigative reporters out there doing top shelf research.
My point is that Schumer and co. are prepared to exploit it if Halper “disappears” (maybe he already disappeared).
here “we” are focusing on a seditious witch hunt, while Iran is having protests in the streets and NK pulled back its yo-yo diplomacy, China rattles sabers in the South China Seas, Lone Nuts terrorize schools, etc, etc. I a sane world Hillary, Meuller and Comey would be doing time in a penetentiary and Obama would be on notice to serve as an example that no one is above the law
How? Just the fact this entire criminal charade is being exposed at the top levels of government brings accountability due to the fact a good percentage of the public now understands the depth these criminals were willing to go to get rid of Trump.
Each day that goes by results in more evidence and exposes even more questionable behavior on part of those attempting to criminally compromise Trump. All while Trump clearly appears to be the innocent one with each passing day.
So in the end it won't matter if ALL of the DC scoundrels are held accountable. Like war, there will always enemy survivors, but they still got their asses kicked and the chances of them ever regaining power are remote at best. The political sea change/new policies should be profound, with checks and balances to make damn sure deep state and the corrupt in D.C. are kept in check.

One would be led to believe that even the most cursory examination of finances for the past 30 years would find ... something interesting ...
This is where the late Jim Morrison's prediction (found on "An American Prayer") that informs his plans to get his kicks, comes into play. Thanks blam.
BOL re the best seller!
p
Thanks. I was not aware of this.
“Washington Headquarters Services, which I hadn’t heard about before, is a part of the Department of Defense. Why would an agency of the Dept of Defense be paying Halper anything? The depth of corruption in our government appears to be beyond imagination.”
I thought that it might be a black budget whorehouse for the CIA!
Yep. The connection to black budget WHS may be the reason for the warning about not revealing Halper. It's not about Halper, it's about DoD cover for his paymasters. Probably more black ops guys in the WHS budget.
Double agent maybe?
Good theory...

Where is Waldo Halper?
Is he providing a lot of nourishment to the fishes at the bottom of some ocean!?
And it is convenient for the Trump plotters that John McCain is Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Mac Thornberry, no friend of Trump, is Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.
How convenient for using the DoD as financier for the plot!
