Pretty common, as is a diet of Hollywood desensitization to violence. I don't agree with Dave Grossman on his every last word, but his take on what the videogame industry has done to young brains is essentially correct. I saw it for myself at least 30 years ago. We will never - NEVER - see the Bloomberg/Parkland types go after the videogame and entertainment industries, let alone the pharmaceutical companies for the part they play in some of this.
I used to think that some of the U.S. military-developed desensitization studies were more appropriate for Berlin or Moscow than DC, but lately...

Hard to believe it is more than twenty years since I heard him speak about his first book!
Permit me - for the benefit of anyone out there who hasnt read him:
David Allen Grossman :
On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society (1995)
Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill: A Call to Action Against TV, Movie and Video Game Violence (1999) On Combat: The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace (2004)
Assassination Generation : Video Games, Aggression, and the Psychology of Killing (2016)
I’d look at the reports of his being bullied as the primary motivation.
Video games don’t make you angry and homicidal towards a group.
Being Bullied on the other hand can elicit desires for revenge upon a group.
