Donald Trump has threatened Kim Jong-un with the same fate as Muammar Gaddafi if the North Korean leader “doesn’t make a deal” on his nuclear weapons programme.
The US president issued the threat at the White House when he was asked about the recent suggestion by his national security adviser, John Bolton, that the “Libyan model” be a template for dealing with North Korea at a summit between Trump and Kim planned for 12 June in Singapore.
The model Bolton was referring to was Gaddafi’s agreement in December 2003 to surrender his embryonic nuclear weapons programme, which included allowing his uranium centrifuges to be shipped out to the US.

Libya is one big cluster-fxxx. Threatening it is fine. Or who knows, we take him out, and let Russia and China duke it out for the remnants.
I used to think very highly of Bolton and was impressed when Trump appointed him, but man that was the stupidest thing anyone could have said.
Trump’s greatest international accolade so far is the Korean issue, despite the usual hysterics from the opposition he took a huge risk and it looked like he was on the verge of grabbing a huge success that would make his opponents look like complete chumps.
Then Bolton makes the one comparison that NOBODY trying to persuade a dictator to give up his nuclear arsenal should ever make, Libya.
Ghadaffi did the right thing, he took a risk and gave up his nuclear weapons, he trusted the West and what was his reward? The US, UK and France overthrew him and installed a bunch of Islamic terrorists in his place.
Now why would any dictator sitting on the bomb look at Ghaddaffi and think that was a good example he should follow?
Bolton was an idiot and it is no surprise that Trump has slapped him down in public today.

Exactly. The next Democrat administration will want to punish Kim for dealing with Trump and will try to assassinate him and destroy his country, just like they did to Muammar for dealing with Bush.

Libyan model refers to how Libya documented their dismantling of their nuclear program.
It was a joint effort by the US and Libya and the hardware was actually sent to the US, eg centrifuges etc...
It has nothing to do with what later happened to Khaddafi under Obama.
Total fake news.

The article refers to that, says the meaning got mixed up, still, I’m unsure as to what Trump said. I saw him on Fox News yesterday and it didn’t sound like this.

Seems to have been a throwaway line in a much larger answer saying how good deal it would be for Kim.
