India has equipped its latest nuclear-powered submarine with a new nuclear-capable missile that can hit targets up to 435 miles away, a capability enjoyed by only four other countries on Earth.
Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the military's feat during the annual Defence Research Development Organisation award ceremony Monday in New Delhi, where she recognized scientists A. Joseph and M. Ugender Reddy for their role in developing the K-15 Sagarika, also known as B-05. Sitharaman revealed that the advanced missile was officially put into service with the INS Arihant nuclear submarine.
"It is an indigenous missile with several innovative designs and a unique mechanism. Numerous critical technologies were proved in the successful trials, which paved the way for developing other long-range strategic missiles and has the potential to be launched from submarine, ship, and land," the award citation read, according to India's Zee News.
Only four other countries in the world have submarine-launched-nuclear missiles with such a range: the U.S., Russia, China and France, whichunlike Indiadoes not have an air, land and sea nuclear triad. India is also one of only nine nations believed to possess nuclear weapons, with an arsenal estimated to be smaller than that of Russia, the U.S., France, China, the U.K. and Pakistan, but larger than that of Israel and North Korea. Like Pakistan, Israel and North Korea, India is not a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Israel has SLBMs in some of their boats. I’m sure Iran has been fully informed of this.
Doesn’t the UK have Trident SLBMs?
I hope the Royal Navy has some plan to keep the invaders from getting access to them.
Yet another sterling example of leftist establishment "journalism".
Yes they do. IIRC, those Trident II Missiles are cycled out, stored, and repaired in the USA. So I guess you could technically call them US Missiles, but the UK does possess Nuclear Equipped Ballistic Missile Submarines.
Newsweak needs an editor.

Brits have the Vanguard class SSBN.

Israeli Dolphins have nuclear tipped cruise missiles.
America needs to strengthen ties with India. Trump visit?
Maybe India wants to get back at the Brits for colonialism.
I hope they take care of it better then the last sub they had.

Doubtful. They havent even conquered clean water yet; even in a river they consider Holy.
Imagine the smell inside the sub with all that currie....
LOL. We were at Disney one year and we got on the tram to go back to the entrance. It was pretty busy so we grabbed whatever seat we could get. I wasnt paying attention as we got going as I had a stroller and bags of obligatory chachkie purchases. Suddenly, it hit me in the smells really hard. An entire family about three rows ahead of us with the wind blowing straight through them onto all of us poor souls behind them. Grandparents, parents, kids. Ugh. As fast as those trams go, it wasnt nearly fast enough.
Really poor article.
The UK has had American boomers/nuclear submarines and missiles for a long time, like about 22 years.

By the time it entered service in 1982 it had cost approx £1bn. The final Polaris/Chevaline patrol took place in 1996.
India seems to be advancing in high tech faster than they are in low tech.
I think you’re picking at nits, the story is about INDIA’s military not those incompetent backstabbing Brits.
That is one of the funniest articles I have read in a long time.
Newsweak idiot.
Britain has the Vanguard class - 4 nuclear powered ballistic missile submarines. Although they have a range a lot longer than 400 miles.
“those incompetent backstabbing Brits.”
That would be the US’s closest most reliable ally in the past 100 years right?
Oh wait, the US has a better friend than the Brits? I must have missed them.
Lol!
Yes, the same folks who colluded with the Obama administration to interfere with our election, are trying to bring down the Trump Presidency and are in the process of screwing up their own exit from the EU.
Those guys...
