Amazon and Whole Foods Market are making a surgical strike in the already brutal grocery price war.
On Wednesday, Whole Foods debuted a much-anticipated loyalty program that offers special discounts to Prime customers, including 10 percent off hundreds of sale items and rotating weekly specials such as $10 per pound off wild-caught halibut steaks.
Those perks are available now in Florida and will roll out to all other stores starting this summer. Amazon previously announced free two-hour delivery from Whole Foods stores for members of Prime, its subscription club with fast shipping and video streaming.
The new loyalty strategy will test whether Amazon's $13.7 billion deal for Whole Foods brings much-feared disruption and an intensified price war to the $800 billion U.S. grocery industry dominated by Walmart and Kroger.
Whole Foods, with 463 U.S. stores and roughly 1 percent share of the fragmented U.S. grocery market, has gained momentum since the Amazon merger last summer, Whole Foods co-founder and Chief Executive John Mackey told Reuters.

“WTF is truffle oil?”
Not sure, but I think it’s used to lubricate truffles.
ha! that makes good sense
and now I Know for Sure that I don’t want any more information about “Truffle Oil”
ha ha!
oiling their truffles? (whatever a truffle is?) ha ha
these kids these days will try Anything, ha!
There used to be a grocers in Dallas in the 1980s called Fresh Approach. Their prices were high, but my gawd, the meat section had the highest quality beef I’ve ever seen including in expensive restaurants. Sadly, they went belly up.
We have an Amazon Prime Credit /Visa/Card!
You can use it anywhere a Visa Card is accepted.
It identifies you as an Amazon Prime member.
Bezos wants to put other grocery stores out of business.
I’m lucky in that I can eat mostly local, and there’s another chain that’s a bit better.
But when it comes to food- no compromise. Id don’t have to, so I won’t; I simply don’t care if a meal costs $60 and takes 6 hours to prepare, I refuse to feed my family anything other than the best available; screw anyone who has a problem with that. If the best product is grown/produced by NAZI’s, commies, Antifa idiots (all the same thing, really), gay, straight or slave I’m buying and using it and to hell with anyone who doesn’t care for that.
Whole Paycheck has some great food, that’s the only thing that matters to me.
I doubt many of the Whole Foods locations compete directly with a Walmart. That means Whole Foods is cutting their profits for no reason unless they’re trying to entice previous customers back into their stores after the low or no stock fiasco. Bringing up Walmart is a PR stunt.
Only place I have seen that is more expensive than Whole Paycheck Foods is “Natural Grocers”.
These places are popping up all over Texas, but I can’t see how they stay in business - they are RIDICULOUS!!!
I have been looking at the Grocery business and wondering if Sprouts which is selling for about 21.00 per share would be a great stock to buy as either Whole Foods (Amazon) or another player will take out this small boutique Grocer?
Any Thoughts?
Sprouts is also like Fresh Thymes....
Also helps if you have a really squeaky truffle.
Say you have a squeaky truffle ..... /Airplane!
Well now they also do delivery ;D. So you don’t even have to see the clientele (in which I am one) if you don’t like.
And MUCH better employees. TJs has the best-trained, most helpful folks in retail.
It is an oil that adds the flavor and aroma of truffles (a mushroom) to a dish.
What you and I could afford is synthetic. Truffle oil made from actual truffles...well...if you have to ask, you can't afford it.
I was at the grocery store earlier and there was a Mexican man about 60-65 in front of me. His groceries were $16 and something. He pulled out his EBT card and ran it thru. Declined. Ran it thru again. Declined. He tells the gal its okay I have money. He pulled a wad of bills out of his pocket held together with one of those huge paper clips and when he started thumbing through for a $20 I saw most of that wad of bills was $100 bills. But he had an EBT card. Lol
we have an extremely high priced local grocery, too...
but yes, their meats (and produce) are the very best quality around
we don’t personally shop there, just TOO damned expensive... but I can see why some folks like to go there
WholePaycheckFoods just couldn’t compete on that quality, ha
ha!
i think pigs like truffles?
i’ll pass
ha ha
Does it include a masseuse at those prices?
