MIAMI - No one seemed to notice when a large white crane that had been working at the doomed Florida International University bridge lurched away down Tamiami Trail shortly after the span collapsed. There was a disaster to respond to: Mountains of concrete. Horribly mangled cars. Dead and injured people.
It wasn't until some time later that authorities began wondering what happened to the crane and its operator, a close eyewitness who might help the investigation into the collapse. But he, and the crane, were gone.
"He drove away in the crane and nobody stopped him,"

He had to make his getaway somehow.
Bet a buck hes an illegal.
Any takers?
L
Maybe he went to get help. Or sober. Or an alibi.
My Work is done here......Where to next Boss?
No doubt inspired by the movie “Chappaquiddick”
“
No one notices or stopped the crane operator......sad.”
You REALLY should read the article that you post before commenting on it ...
Talk about cultural contrast—the video of the collapse shows dozens upon dozens of Americans abandoning their cars and rushing to rescue the victims. Not only does José run away, he removes a critical piece of rescue machinery. Disgusting, but not unexpected.
Read the article.
“Oh, my God! What just happened? Get that crane over here to help move debris! Wha’??? Where the hell did that crane go?!?”
That must be one of the most brazen getaways ever made!
“Disgusting, but not unexpected.”
Commenting without reading the article.
Disgusting, but not unexpected.
Jeez. Read the article.
“...the crane - rented from a Sweetwater firm called George’s Crane...”
.
.
George’s Crane Rental: “You all done?”
Operator: “Yep, done enough damage for one day.”
GCR: “Whoa...got a few scratches on this side.”
Operator: “Just take it out of the security deposit. Think that’ll cover it?”
GCR: “More than enough. I’ll send the remainder after I get an estimate. You need a receipt?”
Operator: “Nah. Mail it to the company with the refund. Not going back to work today. As a matter of fact, I’m leaving on vacation right now.”
GCR: “Must be nice. Where ya going?”
Operator: “Not sure yet. Some place far away from here though. Gonna get in the car and just ride. Gotta go...have a good one.”
GCR: “Yeah, you too. Have a great vacation.”
>>So, Blevins said, the crane man drove the boom mounted on a six-wheel trailer out of the way and then - what time exactly Blevins couldn’t say - took it about 30 blocks north to the George’s Crane lot in Sweetwater. That’s where the crane stayed.
Well it was a rental.
but accounts conflict as to whether he returned of his own accord or he returned because he was asked to come down and answer questions.
I did. Attorneys aren’t happy. Operator went back to “render aid” and left the most useful implement to render aid parked away from the scene.
I didn’t see anything about crane operator heroics, that’s for sure.
A headline designed to create an emotional response.
The driver was interviewed by police and wasn’t interviewed by police. It is like two stories blended into one so the reader is right not matter what the preconceptions are..............
Or a Demcrat
Read the article?!?!? Well that might cut into the righteous indignation! Thats no fun.
Read the whole thing.
