North Korea to Publicly Blow Up Nuclear Test Site It Can't Use Anyway
PJ Media ^ | 05/12/2018 | RIck Moran

"The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so vitally, that in the end they succumb to it utterly and can never escape from it," said Joseph Goebbels.

Charlie Brown. Lucy. Football.

North Korea says they will blow up the tunnels and dismantle its nuclear test site prior to the Trump-Kim summit later this month

It's a coup for peace! Trump triumphant! Novus ordo seclorum!

Is it?

AP:

Kim had already revealed plans to shut down the test site by the end of May during his summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in last month. Analysts say that while the closure of the site is important, it doesn’t represent a material step toward full denuclearization.

“A ceremony for dismantling the nuclear test ground is now scheduled between May 23 and 25,” depending on weather conditions, the Foreign Ministry’s statement said.

It said the North will invite journalists from the United States, South Korea, China, Russia and Britain to witness the dismantling process.

The journalists will be provided with a charter flight from Beijing to the North Korean coastal city of Wonsan, from where they will travel by train to the test site, the statement said.

The ministry said the North will continue to “promote close contacts and dialogue with the neighboring countries and the international society so as to safeguard peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and over the globe.”

Following the Moon-Kim summit, Moon’s office said Kim was willing to disclose the process to international experts, but the North’s statement Saturday didn’t include any mention about allowing experts on the site.

South Korea had no immediate response to the statement.

There's a reason they were closing the test site anyway: it's honeycombed with holes made by nuclear explosions.

Gizmodo:

Earlier this month, North Korea announced the closure of its nuclear testing site, saying it’s  suspending all nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile tests. The surprise move by President Kim Jong Un may be an attempt to ease relations prior to a summit with Donald Trump, but a new reports suggests the collapse of North Korea’s test facility may have been a contributing factor.

Geologists at the University of Science and Technology of China have presented evidence suggesting the mountain directly above North Korea’s Punggye-ri nuclear test site has collapsed, reports the Associated Press. The incident happened following the September 3, 2017 detonation of a nuclear bomb estimated at around 100 kilotons, which is 10 times stronger than any of the previous five tests conducted by North Korea. By comparison, the bomb used at Hiroshima in 1945 produced about 15 kilotons of explosive power.

[...]

These findings are consistent with a related study published in Geophysical Research Letters on March 14, 2018. “According to our model, the explosion created a cavity and a damaged ‘chimney’ of rocks above it,” wrote the researchers, who work at China’s Institute of Geophysics in Beijing. The analysis produced by the University of Science and Technology researchers has successfully gone through peer review, and will appear in an upcoming issue of Geophysical Research Letters.

Kim is getting a lot of propaganda mileage out of dismantling a useless site. The question is, why is anyone buying the notion that this is a "gesture towards peace"?

This meaningless action by Kim raises the prospect that the Trump-Kim summit is also an exercise in using smoke and mirrors for Kim to achieve... what? It's anyone's guess, but I think we can be reasonably certain that it won't include "denuclearization" or a halt to their development of ICBMs.

It looks like Kim is holding the football, daring Trump to trust him enough to try and kick it.

And Rick the Moron demonstrates once again why he earned his nickname

Do any of these clueless idiots realize an agreement goes FAR beyond blowing up just this one test site?

Hint for you little Morons in the screaming clown wing of the Fake Media. You don't have access to the intelligence information Trump has. You are not smarter then Trump.

As anyone who has watched Trump in action can see, he is an outcome, not a process guy. He will not agree to a bad deal, as Kerry/Clinton/Obama did just to “get something done” and “build their legacy”.

Any sane person knows to Trust Trumps ego. Trump sees himself as a winner, he will not stand to be played the fool. If he doesn't think it a good deal he will, like with he Iran deal, not agree to it.

How about your finds something USEFUL to write about instead Rick the Moron? Quit wasting our time with this sort of infantile idiocy.

Silly commentary from Rick Moran. Regardless of its efficacy, the destruction, the release of prisoners, the declaration that they are committed to denuclarization, is a narrative that shows a massive reversal in thinking. There is zero probability with these signs that, under Trump, there will not be an agreement and an actual carrying out of monthly destruction of nuclear missiles and nuclear facilities. The Norks will do their best to save face, but Trump has already been given more face and all the cards.

As long as we know, and they know that we know, I think it’s a great idea to go along with it.

Yes, I agree. Even if it’s a useful act so far as the site goes, it is still a public display of Kim’s commitment to being on this path, which will make it much harder for him to change course later.

North Korea has actually tested very few nuclear weapons. If they do have a miniaturized weapon which is essential for a intercontinental ballistic missile they had outside help that could have only come from China. China is not stupid. This did not happen as China does not want this.

North Korea does not have an intercontinental ballistic missile warhead that can strike the United States at this present time with a miniaturized weapon. They could have this in a few years of testing of missiles and atomic tests.

North Korea has tested a weapon in the range of 250 kilotons. That does not mean it is deliverable weapon on a missile. In the fifties the USA did conduct weapon test in the multiple megaton class. These weapons weighed thousands of pounds and were not a deliverable weapon and this was just research until we achieved small weapons in the range of 200 to 300 kilotons that we could use on missiles.

It is totally inconceivable that North Korea has achieved this with just a few tests. If they have it was technology from China. China is not stupid and I do not think they helped.
