Germany is an ally? Since when?
Germany isn't even an ally to the rest of Europe. What participation in the European Union has done to multiple European nations is to turn them into dependent nations, with Germany being their economic and policy master. I wouldn't trust Merkel to hit the ground if I saw her jump out of a window.
Plus, if it wasn't for the US winning the cold war, the USSR would still exist and the Berlin Wall would not have come down. We have every right to negotiate our own deals.
The big reason Germany wanted the Iran deal to stay in place was because they were benefiting from it economically:

I remember my dear Mother telling us in the late 1950s that Germany is not yet through messing with us. I took it then and later to mean she still had war memories fresh in her mind, but MAYBE she was more right than I ever imagined.
