When ABC cancelled "Last Man Standing" after its sixth season last year, the show was at the top of its game, with millions of loyal viewers and perched behind only "Modern Family" at the number two ranking among the networks comedy shows.
To say fans were disappointed is an understatement. Although ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey tried to blame the networks decision on the shows high price tag rather than star Tim Allens political affiliation or, worse, his support of President Trump, not many were buying it, particularly Allen.
"I always wanted "Last Man Standing" to be like ['All in the Family's'] Archie Bunker," said Allen last September, according to THR. "Archie Bunker;pushed boundaries, but Carroll O'Connor was not that guy at all. I am a version of that guy. But there is nothing more dangerous, especially in this climate, than a funny, likable conservative character. He is mitigated on the show by a family of women who had a difference of opinions, but [Mike Baxter] was a likable guy and a principled guy about work and ethics and all this stuff."
Theres the rub, of course. Progressives, being the type of folks who want to dominate every aspect of our lives, are certainly used to controlling what the public is allowed to watch, and they do it with gusto, filling countless broadcast hours with what essentially amounts to poorly produced leftist propaganda.
To them, it doesnt matter that Baxters wife on the show, along with at least two of his daughters, lean liberal and represent many liberal viewpoints with class. The fact that a title character on the show, and a likeable one at that, is a conservative and represents many of OUR viewpoints with class was simply a bridge too far, and "Last Man Standing"had to go.
I dont have any inside proof for that, of course, but knowing what I know about how liberals, particularly those with acute cases of Trump-Derangement Syndrome, think, I dont think its a bridge too far.
Except, conservatives have money too, and green is hard to ignore.
Enter "Roseanne," another show geared toward working class America that helped fill the void left by "Last Man Standing" in a yuge way by dominating its time slot and skyrocketing to the top of the Nielsen ratings. Its portrayal of a working-class grandmother who openly supported President Trump because he talked about jobs was refreshing to Trump-supporting, working-class America.
Considering that Roseanne is the only conservative character on the show and many of the other storylines and characters are more reminiscent of a show like "Modern Family" than "Leave it to Beaver," it actually says a lot about what beaten-down conservatives in America are willing to tolerate for their entertainment these days. Sadly, sometimes its enough just to have someone on television openly declaring their support for President Trump and not be portrayed as a monster.
So when conservatives took the bone they tossed us with "Roseanne" and devoured it like a starving wolf, it couldnt have hurt the prospects of bringing back "Last Man Standing", and now the series has officially been revived for a seventh season by Fox.
Allen will be back, as well as stars Nancy Travis, Jonathan Adams, Christoph Sanders, Amanda Fuller, and Jordan Masterson. And the Trump-supporting star couldnt be happier.
"Excited? Team LMS was in the sixth inning, ahead by four runs, stands were packed and then for no reason, they call off the game. It leaves you sitting in the dugout, holding a bat and puzzled. Now we get the news from Fox that its time to get back out on that diamond hell yes, Im excited!" Allen said in a Friday statement. "When I heard the offer to create more episodes of 'Last Man Standing,' I did a fist pump so hard I threw my back out. Its the fans! I could not be more grateful for the fans who wrote petitions and kept up the passion and incredible support for the show. And a fist pump, ouch, for Dana Walden and Gary Newman at Fox for not only listening to the fans, but for making the bold move to bring Last Man Standing back. Im sure audiences will be curious to see what we look like after all these years. Oh, has it only been one year? Well, just goes to show you a lot can happen in a year.
My kids couldnt be happier either. They loved the show, and my wife and I loved watching it with them. Politics aside, there are few shows these days that are classy, clean, well produced, well acted, and hilarious to boot.
Heres to watching Tim Allen and "Last Man Standing" hit home runs for many years to come!
Maybe I will check it out. I never watched his other tv shows.
Great (Again) News.
I watched some Home Improvement and it was ok.
Good for Tim.
I will stick to reruns of SOAP and Benson.
If the character “Mandy” isn’t back it will leave a huge void.
A show that did not glorify perversion. One that didn’t worship sex. One that didn’t make cheap jokes about masturbation. One with an intact 99% fully functional family with a good relationship and the ability to joke with one another. A show with no one getting his dicque chopped off. No shootemup. No dark intrigue. A show that didn’t need a laff track to tell you when to laugh.
That explains why they cancelled it.
Glad it’s coming back.
$hit on the left.
If ABC does not want to carry shows millions of Americans want
to watch, other Networks will.
It’s very funny SMGFan!
It’s one of the only Network shows I watch. Except for NCIS. :-)
Plus it’s a show that the entire family can watch and it’s still funny. Check it out past seasons on Crave or HBO...?
The Tim Allen character is far outweighed by the daughters the neighbor Etc in terms of conservatism. Although he does have one gun loving daughter. LOL
If progressives can’t silence the opposition, then they must be destroyed. Its liberal SOP.
It’s about a conservative guy living with four women only one of them is slightly conservative. His neighbor is a black guy; they are friends. Takes place in Colorado, which always breaks my heart, because I live there for 10 years and still miss it.
Every liberal is a violent totalitarian thug.
I have to tell the story. When my son was about four, the first Toy Story came out. For Christmas we give him a Buzz Lightyear. His little best friend got a Woody doll. On one particular play date, his friend said, “ show me your Buzz and I’ll show you my woody.!”
His mom and I looked at each other and cracked up lol
Until heads roll for the initial removal, ABC is still messed up in my book...run by the extreme leftist types.
Now I understand why his first show, “Home Improvement”, with #1 rating somehow managed to be forgotten for an Emmy or whatever award it should have gotten in it’s first or second season.
I liked the youngest the best. Wish her story line would be expanded. Never liked the oldest or her lib husband but understand why the show needs those characters. Had a tendency to change the channel with that dip stick walked on stage.
I watched the first few episodes of this, then did not watch it. But for shizzle I will be watching now.
And you gotta love Roseann, she really was a Trump person back in the day when Trump was a NYC mogul. And, not for nothing, Laurie Metcalf is the best. She is great as Sheldon’s Bible belting Mom on The Big Bang Theory.
The original LMS was occasionally good and I viewed it as often as I could. Lately my TV viewing has dropped off a bunch. It annoys the wife but I make it a point not to watch shows that feature blacks or fags. Notice I said ‘feature’, meaning that those folk are the main attraction.
I like ‘Blue Bloods’, NCIS (original) and a few others.
6 seasons? That doesn't seem right. I just verified it via Wikipedia, but it seems like it was about 3 seasons.
