These people need to hang for this. It needs to be televised too.
“These people need to hang for this. It needs to be televised too.”
I assume this talk of public hangings and firing squads is partly bravado, partly fantasy, partly hyperbole. Yes, I know it’s a part of our history - but it’s been a long time since the American public has witnessed such a spectacle.
Do you really want to go there?
I’d be fine with....
1) the humiliation of public trials and convictions
2) loss of rights and banishment from public office
3) confiscation of any ill-gotten profits
4) fines and jail time consistant with similar modern era political crimes (i.e Watergate, etc.)
Like it or not, the American public as a whole will no longer stomach public public executions, especially for political crimes - there would be significant political “blow back”.
My first priority would be to have the swamp drained so that corrupt politicians no longer abuse the public trust, and the crimes are no longer being committed. Seeing corrupt politicians punished for past crimes is important, but secondary.
I really do not wish to have to see (or for my granchildren to have to see) public executions. I believe there would be horrible unintended consequences - i.e., the good guys who tracked down the criminals and meted out justice would go down in history as the bad guys - authoritarian tyrants who abused the law to string up their political opposition. It would be a lie, but yet that’s the way history would be written.
Remember, the fake news of today is the fake history of tomorrow.
