Sarah Palin Reacts to John McCain's Regrets Over Picking Her as Running Mate: 'Perpetual Gut Punch'

John McCain may have admitted that he regrets picking Sarah Palin as his running mate in the 2008 presidential election, but according to the former Alaska governor, “that’s not what Sen. McCain has told me all these years.”

The one-time Republican vice-presidential candidate told The Daily Mail on Thursday that she feels a “perpetual gut punch” every time she hears reports about McCain’s regrets and that having to read the news every day is “not a real fun thing.”

“I attribute a lot of what we’re hearing and reading regarding McCain’s statements to his ghostwriter or ghostwriters,” Palin said. “I don’t know unless I heard it from Sen. McCain myself.”

She added that McCain has “apologized to me repeatedly for the people who ran his campaign,” adding that some of them “now staff MSNBC, the newsroom there, which tells you a lot.”

He's obviously got ghostwriters even if we believe this is something that he said (I believe it). But last week in the New York Times it had the most hilariously phony interview with McCain about his “favorite” writers. You would think he was a combo of Bertrand Russell and Edmund Wilson from the patently ghost-written answers. I mean, this is a guy who thought Star Wars was the height of high art when he ran the first time.

As I recall, I didn’t like the idea of voting McCain in 2008. I really didn’t like the idea of President Obama more.... But Palin was impressive and inspiring at that time. She probably got more votes than he did.

It has been more than a month from the original thread, but I post now as I finally read that book. In it McCain says only extremely positive things about Sarah Palin. The controversy and conflict seems to be totally invented by the People Magazine here.
