Kim Jong-uns private jets, and where he could fly them to meet Donald Trump
Having broken with his usual preference for rail travel by flying to China, the leader may be ready to hold a summit with the US farther afield and he has aircraft at his disposal

North Korean leaders usually travel by train when going overseas, but Kim Jong-un flew to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday which may broaden the choice of locations for his meeting with US President Donald Trump next month.
For his first China visit in March also his first foreign trip as leader Kim travelled on a 22-carriage armoured train moving at 60km/h, exactly as his famously aerophobic father used to.
But on Monday he flew to Chinas northeast city of Dalian, which is only 360km from Pyongyang, by air.
The North Korean Air Force One named Chammae-1, a modified Soviet-made jetliner Ilyushin Il-62M aircraft was photographed at Dalian airport.
This means that for the meeting with Trump, it would not be impossible for Kim to travel to more distant destinations by air, rather than to one of the few options accessible by train.
Kims long-haul Il-62M
The four-engine cold war legacy aircraft Il-62M has a range of about 10,000km, enabling it to make a non-stop journey from North Korea to the west coast of the United States, or to European cities such as Zurich and Stockholm.
It is more than capable of the 5,000km trip from Pyongyang to Singapore, if a summit between the US and North Korea were to take place there, as has been suggested.

Or he could go by submarine...oh wait! How wide is the hatch?
I could only imagine how much red and gold is in the interior of that plane.
The decorating must be GROSS
I wonder what the NK Army folks are thinking and observing from all this “feel-good” news...
We shall see if that comes true, which would be a real "future proves past."
How do you travel overseas by train? Is there a long bridge?
I always considered the Il-62 to be a ripoff of the VC-10. It’s not quite an exact copy.
A Freeper yesterday noted the difference in tone from the White House when referring the Dear Leader. No longer combative and belittling.
It marks a sea change, IMO.
That woman who sings poetry on TV will have some hard work ahead of her.
These are the same people who partied in the streets because, 4 times now, Great Leader Kim has already nuked the US and they now have spaceships and do battle with Darth Vader and stuff.
All of those propaganda videos... they were forced to run them and sing their praises time after time. At some point no one knows what the hell is actually going on.
I’m surprised (We haven’t heard yet heard of) Fatboy saying that Trump is surrendering to him.
Announcing the when and where of such a meeting this far in advance is a risky proposition. It gives all sorts of bad actors prep time to disrupt proceedings or set up to kill participants. Our own home-grown left could even try something, with plausible deniability. The last thing they want is a Trump success!
They’ve got time to get a modern Chinese plane repainted before the trip. I would do that before I flew any of his own tree top airlines planes.
Glad to see that China has the pop-up, pop-out, drop-frame crap figured out.
Horrendous web site design.
You know their economy is thin when their leader is jetting around in old Soviet planes.
“Let’s hope his health suddenly deteriorates rapidly and kick the bucket soon. “
I hope for whatever speeds NK into the modern era as a peaceful state and eases the suffering of its people. If that is Un still in power for a while then so be it. Now does not see like a good time for a change of leadership.
....” If his plane crashes, it could get really interesting”....
Isn’t he flying in China’s plane? That’s a safe guard itself from that of his own transport.... Not so sure China wants him completely out of the way in that respect.
But who really knows....dicey as it goes that’s for sure!
Actually, ALL of NK’s jets are the Juche-fruit’s private jets.
That reminds me of the time the US tried to pressure a Canadian subsidiary of MLW/Worthington Studebaker (yes, that Studebaker), to cancel a sale of diesel engines to Cuba. The US claimed national security as the reason.
Couldn’t you just see the shock as a diesel locomotive erupts from the surf onto a Miami beach sprouting a rooster tail of sand in its wake?
The cult and Kim family ambition will be a real roadblock to N. Korea's development. So if he goes not long after NK agrees to denuclearization 'in principle,' the process will be more thorough and we can make it permanent.
