Gina Haspel at her confirmation hearing to be director of the Central Intelligence Agency. (Screen Capture) (CNSNews.com) - In her confirmation hearing on Wednesday in the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Sen. Jack Reed (D.-R.I.) asked Gina Haspel, President Donald Trumps nominee to be director of the Central Intelligence Agency, whether she had ever been alone in a room with Trump.
Youve been working with the administration now for fifteen months, said Reed. You have had the opportunity to brief the president. Have you ever been alone with the president?
Senator, Haspel responded, Im usually there with Senator [Dan] Coats [the Director of National Intelligence], a brilliant analyst who delivers the actual analytic briefing, and usually the national security adviser, the vice president.
Reed then explained that his question was inspired by fired FBI Director James Comeys claim that President Trump had asked him in a private meeting for his personal loyalty.

There have been allegationsMr. Comey, onethat while he was alone the president asked for a personal pledge of loyalty, said Reed. If you were ever approached by the president and asked for a personal pledge of loyalty, what would you respond?
Senator, my only loyalty is to the American people and the Constitution of the United States, Haspel responded. I am honor bound and will work very hard to deliver to this president and his administration the best performance and intelligence CIA can deliver.
She further told Reed: I dont believe that such a circumstance would ever occur.
Here is the exchange that took place between Reed and Haspel:
Sen. Jack Reed: Youve been working with the administration now for fifteen months. You have had the opportunity to brief the president. Have you ever been alone with the president?
Gina Haspel: Senator, Im usually there with Senator Coats, a brilliant analyst who delivers the actual analytic briefing, and usually the national security adviser, the vice president.
Reed: There have been allegationsMr. Comey, onethat while he was alone the president asked for a personal pledge of loyalty. If you were ever approached by the president and asked for a personal pledge of loyalty, what would you respond?
Haspel: Senator, my only loyalty is to the American people and the Constitution of the United States. I am honor bound and will work very hard to deliver to this president and his administration the best performance and intelligence CIA can deliver.
Reed: And if you were approached in such a way and such a demand were made of you, would you inform this committee and the Congress that you had been so approached?
Haspel: Senator, I have worked very closely with this president. I dont believe that such a circumstance would ever occur. CIA has been treated with enormous respect and our expertise is valued for what we bring to the table.
Reed: If it occurred would you inform the committee?
Haspel: Senator, it is a hypothetical. I dont think it is going to occur. I am very confident about that.
Reed: It does not seem to be a hypothetical. People have alleged that that has happened already.
Haspel: Senator, I dont know anything about that conversation.
Reed: Okay.
The sexual innuendo in this question was obvious. It caused Director Haspel to pause and she responded as if asked about sexual favors....that she was with other witnesses.
Of course, that was a gotcha moment designed for the media slime merchants to gossip, slime, and titter.
If it had been any liberal female asked the same question by a conservative, the outrage would have been immediate and unrelenting.
A “Joey, have you ever been in a men’s locker room” moment
What complete and total scumbaggery is Leftism.
Wow.
She should have just said, Have you?
I was amazed when I heard it. And Senator Reed didn’t immediately give his cover story for asking.
He left it at: Have you ever been alone with the president.
Then he shut up to see what she’d say.
It was a slimeball trap and she knew it.
“Senator (Reed) Asks CIA Nominee Gina Haspel: Have You Ever Been Alone With the President?”
Gina Haspel should have said, “well Senator, I think he is married and prefers chicks, but I can slip him a note between classes for you.”
OK, I officially HATE every Elected Democrat the same way they HATE me.
Reed is not an intelligent person, is he?
Exactly. No one would have asked Loretta Lynch that question.
What a sh*thead.
How many skeletons are in Reed’s closet? We know Libs imply, if not outright accuse, others of the very behavior in which they engage. Good to see Haspel not take the bait, stick to her story and push back. I love her response: my oath and loyalty are to the Constitution senator, so don’t ask me stupid hypothetical questions borne out of your own sexual depravity (ok, so I paraphrased a bit).
God bless this woman and may the Lord allow her to oversee the CIA.
It was SOOOO obvious what he was doing.
But because it’s a conservative, it’s not proper to suggest the senator was trying to slime her.
My experience with the media and with politicians is that when they slime someone, they are themselves guilty.
“Exactly. No one would have asked Loretta Lynch that question.”
Nor would anyone ever want to be alone with her.
A couple of blasts from the past...
“It depends on how you define alone ” Bill Clinton, in his grand jury testimony
“There were a lot of times when we were alone, but I never really thought we were.” Bill Clinton, in his grand jury testimony
The fact that this type of behavior is not only common, but expected is nauseating.
He was suggesting she traded sex for her CIA nomination, wasn’t he?
“Women like you don’t make it on quality work, but because you sleep around.”
Reed should be charged.
