There is no way “Trump is cleared” will ever be accepted. That, I think, is known by all. Hence I don’t think this is a grand scheme by Trump to get “Trump is cleared” accepted.
IMO he’s fighting a vicious war and we see the battle outcomes. He does have the upper hand - and he will end up with victory. I hope - as others have said - that he is willing and follows through with brutal punishment for the conspirators - else we will continue to have this - forever.
I don't think that's unreasonable. Still, with all the clamor (and it hasn't died down), if he'd had Sessions or Rosenstein doing the investigation, the attack against Trump would have broadened into an attack on Sessions and Rosenstein - not that this didn't happen anyway, but now Sessions and Rosenstein are being threatened by people nominally in Trump's camp.
Given the existence of the Russian collusion fable, how would have proposed, a year ago, to dispose of it? Would you have assigned Sessions? Rosenstein? Ignore it?
There has been a silver lining in keeping the fable alive. Without that, the "Trump was framed" evidence would not be as well known as it is.
