In the race for California governor, two Republicans have shunned the center and are running to the right in a bloody fight for a segment of the electorate that loves President Donald Trump and loathes Democrats who have proudly committed to being his foil.
Democrats dominate Californias government and far outnumber Republicans in the state. But Assemblyman Travis Allen and businessman John Cox havent altered their messages to try to appeal to them in a June 5 primary where every registered voter can cast a ballot for any candidate.
Eight years ago California voters rewrote the states election laws so that the top two finishers in the primary, regardless of party, advance to the general election in November. It was pitched as a way to give moderates a path to victory, but in this race the Democrats are running to the left and the Republicans to the right.
Cox and Allen went at each other repeatedly in Tuesday nights debate in San Jose that also included the four leading Democratic candidates. The conflict between the Republicans became heated enough that moderator Chuck Todd of NBC News quipped that they should take their battle outside.
Allen called Cox my angry opponent from Chicago, a reference to his native city that many Republicans identify with crime and Democratic corruption. Cox called Allen my young immature opponent. They talked over each other and Allen accused Cox of lying in a dispute about how Allen voted on a 2013 bill that granted drivers licenses to people living in the country illegally.

Mexicans will never allow California to elect a pro-American governor.
If he can get into a runoff and then get the Republican vote in the final, he would be much better than Newsom or Villaraigosa.
I'm not going to criticize anyone for voting their conscience, but if you believe in trying to get the least worst viable option into office then I think Chiang is the best California can hope for right now.
Looks like someone's taking advantage of the recent legalization of marijuana! ;-)
“You dont have a chance. The northern counties will crush you with voter fraud.”
You may be right. Those counties up north go so heavily Democrat they don’t need fraud to win most the time.
But for the first time since 1986, we have candidates running for governor as open Conservatives. Every Republicsn candidate for governor from 1990 on (Pete Wilson, Dan Lungren, Bill Simon, Schwartzenegger, Whitman and Kashkari) ran as ‘moderates”. This year is probably the best chance the Republicans have had in a long while. Plus the Gas Tax Repeal will be on the November ballot.
“’One of them needs to drop out and being that Cox voted for Gary Johnson I think it should be him.”
Are you sure? Cox is running as very pro Trump...But still I do prefer Travis Allen.
Why not? Do you spend your life believing that the only
news coming from California is what the MSM tells you?
You’re right on!
Up yours.
Mexicans will never allow California to elect a pro-American governor.
><><
Right on! They can’t allow anyone or anything to interfere with the Reconquista.
Howdy, my friend!
*** “Republicans are running for CA governor? Why?” ***
The House of Cards is fixing to fall, I wouldn’t want to be the guy in Office when it did, since you pretty much can’t stop it at this stage, then catch the blame from the MSM
It is working exactly as intended...to shut out everyone except Democrats...Cox/Allen are very long shots to even sneak into 2nd place.

“But still I do prefer Travis Allen.”
I do to.
A very high GOP turnout could create that exact scenario...as the two top vote getters with multiple candidates in a race could be low percentages even if the majority of the overall combined vote goes to Dem candidates.
It would be cool to see that system turned on its head.
Although another strategy as I have posted before would be for conservatives to also run as Democrats and no “Republicans” run under that party registration and turn the Dem party label as a nonpartisan entity - imagine statewide office holders as “Democrats” that are conservatives / right of center...would the party org even recognize them? I bet they’d move to abolish that system if that were to happen.
Howdy, friend! I hope all is well.
Re: Change from W.R. King County to MLK King County.
Most of the people living in King County have never heard about the change, either.
About 10 years ago they changed the County logo from a crown to a completely lame pen and ink drawing of MLK, so I guess more people know about it now.
I live in east King County, and my town is 40% Asian, most of them Indian software engineers.
Since there are three times as many Asians in King County as Black Americans, I jokingly tell people that we should change the name again to “Gandhi County.”
Recently, it occurred to me that Ben Kingsley starred in an epic film about Gandhi, so I decided it might be less traumatic if we changed King County to “Kingsley” County!
Actually, that 2-to-1 democrat voting advantage has more to do with it.
I heard the other day that there are something like 30 different positions where a Republican is not even running. Dems running unopposed. Haven’t really looked into it so not sure what they are.
The Republican party in California is pathetic.
