Art teacher Stacy Bailey was twice selected Teacher of the Year at her Texas elementary school, where she started in 2008, but after she showed her students a photo of her and her then-girlfriend, she was placed on administrative leave. Now, Bailey is suing the district for discrimination.
“Stacy is filing this lawsuit and taking this action in hopes of pushing Mansfield [Independent School District] out of the shadows of discrimination and into the sunshine of equal rights,” her attorney, Jason Smith, told NBC 5 in Dallas.
Bailey’s lawsuit was filed Tuesday in federal court and lists the Mansfield Independent School District and two administrators as defendants. The suit claims the defendants unfairly discriminated against Bailey because of her sexual orientation.
“Defendants placed plaintiff on administrative leave, improperly publicly discussed her employment status publicly, refused to return her to her previous position in an elementary school, transferred her to a secondary school and determined she was not appropriate to teach elementary students all became of her sexual orientation and status as a lesbian,” the lawsuit states.
Last August, Bailey showed her students at Charlotte Anderson Elementary in Arlington, Texas, photos of her parents, her best friends and her “future wife” during a “Get to Know Your Teacher” presentation. Later that week, according to Bailey’s lawsuit, a parent complained to the school board and the superintendent that Bailey was promoting a “homosexual agenda” in the classroom.
The complaint eventually led to Bailey being placed on administrative in early September and then being asked for her resignation in late October, which she refused to give, according to the lawsuit. Despite requesting to return to Charlotte Anderson, Bailey was reassigned to a high school in the district this month.

When I was growing up in the '50s this would not have been tolerated for a second in any school in the country. Not one.

This is my backyard, and makes me so angry. Mansfield is a very, VERY conservative bedroom community of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, and this should be seen as a vicious attack from OUTsiders.

My child has a high school teacher who tells the kids about about disagreements and fights he has with his wife. A couple of the girls in the class have taken in upon themselves to argue on the wife's behalf, even though they don't know her.

The teacher should in the first place be kept away far from any and all students in any schools but at least far far from any child that hasn't had a chance to learn just how dangerous and destructive the homosexual lifestyle really is and have a better chance at evaluating such insidious attempts on a level playing field of knowledge and not when their minds are so susceptible to insidious indoctrination methods and tricks by the sexual deviants living in our society.

Ask any rational person if it’s reasonable for a normal teacher to flaunt photos of their spouses before students. When I was in school, that would have been considered inappropriate. I never even knew for certain whether any of my teachers were married, unless they wore a standard band.
She should move to San Fag-cisco if she wants to teach and indoctrinate children.
I never knew that they had a life outside of the school. Was always bizarre when I would run into one at the grocery store, or something. Never knew exactly what to say.

WBill Jr. is more conservative than I am. Good that he wasn't in this class, or I'd be in the principal's office having a discussion about what he said.
Of course, I live in a small, conservative community. Has plenty of benefits, the above being one of them.
