(CNN)Mike Braun, a businessman and former state representative, has won Indiana's Republican primary, CNN projects, and is set to face Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly in one of the marquee Senate contests of this year's midterm elections.
Braun began the race as a little-known figure outside his hometown of Jasper in rural southwestern Indiana. But he spent more than $5 million of his own money on the race, allowing him to dwarf his opponents, GOP Reps. Todd Rokita and Luke Messer, in television advertising. Rokita and Messer relentlessly attacked Braun for his history of voting in Democratic primaries in a county where the party until recently held a firm grip on local offices. And his auto parts distribution business is certain to face scrutiny, particularly because Braun has criticized other candidates for backing free trade agreements.

Guess that’s good. No rings from congress. Hopefully he won’t shoot himself in the foot like the last one. I say keep the lowest profile possible and let the Trump supporters carry him over the finish line in this red state.
There have been only a few topics with Braun,s name.
One topic,
Tom Coburn endorsing him.
And another topic called him Conservative outsider.
Rings = rino spellchecked?
The only men we trust are those that can’t be bribed by RINOs.
Sorry pal.
Very solid pick. Self funded campaign, Business background served several terms in the IN Legislature. Even Karl Rove had to admit Bruan has a very good chance to defeat Donnley.
Amazing. He wins in the general and he can ride Trump’s coattails for 6 years and if things go as WE think they will he can CRUISE to reelection in 2024. Might be putting the cart before the horse but he can set himself up for the next 12 years! Nice work if you can get it. All he has to do is not go Flake on US.
Baris of PPD says he can beat Donnelly.
Bruan repeatedly stated “I am going to the US Senate to sever as reinforcements for President Trump.”
Pretty much welded his political wagon to Trump
I voted for Braun, He lives in Jasper, Indiana...an hour from where I live. He is a friend of a very good friend of mine. He is the real deal, from what I have seen. Solid pick!
The media will try to make Braun the next Mourdock, and get him to step on his crank. It will be the same sort of “gotcha” abortion question that torpedoed Mourdock and made Donnelly Senator.
Unfortunately, of the three candidates, Braun is mostly likely to comply.
My iPad automatically changes my words too.
All 3 were trying to be the Trumpiest candidate in the race.
I didn’t know until I stood in front of the voting machine whether I would punch the button for Rokita or Braun. Messer was just plain uninspiring.
Rokita, I feared, would be the most likely to shoot himself in the foot before November.
So, Braun it was.
No doubt the opposition is going try to trip him up with abortion questions happened 2012 with GOP candidates.
Mason gal, ther are rumors up here in Lafayette that Braun has been a democrat in the past. Is this true?
Alright, Braun seems like a good guy, an outsider but not some crank with an ax to grind.
And his ads were right — his opponents were indistinguishable.
He was one until 2012. He served in the legislature as a Republican, though.
No senate race has ever perplexed me like this one. I hope that the general election is won by the most conservative candidate, period. I don’t know who that really is. I want a true Trump supporter. No more fakes. Not sure when the Swamp will understand that.
He did a lengthy intervies on WIBC and explained it this was...
He lived in a district that was predominately Democrat at the time. Republicans didn’t even field candidates for many local races.
Like my county, only with republicans. There were only 2 democrats on the entire ticket, both unopposed.
If one wants to have a say in local government, you have to vote for the choices available. In my county,, it’s only Republicans. In Brauns, it was only democrats.
I checked his voting record in the state legislature, and he seemed to vote the way I would have hoped he would have.
