My Son-in-Law was a member of The Old Guard. He and my daughter (also stationed at Fort Myer) had the honor of marching behind President Reagan's caisson in his funeral procession.

McCain meets the requirements to be buried at Arlington a couple of times over - no matter what many think.
There are too many politicians with no connection to the military buried there.
Space is getting very limited and they are tightening up on just who can be buried there.
Only two from my family are buried there, both AF Ltc’s. The rest opted for family plots or regional state cemeteries. I’ll go to the state cemetery down the road a bit where my father-in-law is.

I’ve got a better idea, then. DJT can announce that HE wants to be buried in Arlington... right next to his best buddy John McCain.
McCain would then insist on being buried privately. LOL.
A lot of people meet the requirement but they won't get a plot. A few years ago 2% or 3% opted for cremation but now it is near 50%. Funeral directors have priced themselves out of an outrageous market. Besides land is becoming an increasing scarcity.
I haven't checked but I think the VA will pay for cremation so McCain should take what he negotiated for every other vet.
