Israel, our greatest Middle East Ally, is located on Lebanon’s southern boarder. Israel is the only country that could stop an Russia/Iranian conquest of the Petrodollar Middle East.

The US under both Obama and Trump has been pushing for a pipeline across Syria from Qatar. Lebanon is a potential port for the pipeline thus I suppose the US will now start bombing everyone in Lebanon who opposes the pipeline just as we did with Syria.

Russia supplies about 40% of Europe’s natural gas. They don’t want new competitors coming online. Qatar and Israel are both future competitors. So we know Russia’s motivation. The US motivation may be less direct and as old as the Marshall Plan.
