I started to mention the high crime rate in Chicago, but if they still ‘don’t know’, then they just don’t want to know. I won’t be the one to rain on their parade. I am usually too blunt with my opinions.<<
I almost never see this point mentioned but, if memory serves, there are many areas of Chicago that are actually quite free of criminals and violent crime. But like Baltimore and many other cities, there are certain high-crime areas where no one should ever go.

But those areas that are safe are getting smaller. Basically, anything south of North avenue in Chicago is “iffy”. 40 years ago, there were perfectly “good” neighborhoods, black and white, on the south side.
