Kim's travel at Koreas summit in apparent Mercedes-Benz turning heads in Germany
April 30, 2018 (Mainichi Japan)
BERLIN -- The Koreas summit has become a big topic in the German media for an unusual reason: Everyone is wondering how North Korean leader Kim Jong Un got his hands on a Mercedes-Benz.
During his high-profile meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Kim used a limousine that appeared to be a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, a luxury brand produced by German automobile manufacturing giant Daimler. While footage of the 12 bodyguards running alongside the car was broadcast live around the world, Germans are wondering how the North Korean leader was able to get the car amidst strict U.N. Security Council sanctions on the isolated nation banning the import of German vehicles since nuclear tests in 2006.
Daimler told the online magazine Business Insider that it has not conducted any business with North Korea for over 15 years and is complying with the U.N. sanctions, denying that it had any role in selling the car to Kim. The company representative also stated that there is no information about the model and serial number of the vehicle.
While the online edition of the major German tabloid Bild reported that the North Korean government was able to slip through the net of sanctions to get luxury cars imported, it also surmised that Kim may have borrowed the vehicle from a South Korean acquaintance for the visit.
P!
Kind of silly really. The North Koreans have turned getting around sanctions into an art. There is probably no less than a dozen ways they could have got it.

That’s one of the problems with today’s media: they don’t know how to correctly investigate.
The thug got the Mercedes through channels.

In N. Korean x-country footrace Kim is being allowed to race with a limo due to security concerns. Last report has Kim as an odds on favorite to win.
Through China through a trading firm. Where else!!??
What did they expect? A Kia Sorento?
The Moscovitch?
Shoot, it was probably shipped via Amazon.Com...../kinda half-joking comment on Jeff Bezos
Is it cultural appropriation for them to use a German car? What’s wrong with a Kia?
He bought it in Beijing and had it put on his train while he was visiting Xi Jinping.
Appeared to be? Who do these clowns think they are kidding?
If it’s technically a used car, then why is anybody even asking the question.
Where was Kim when in the car anyhow? If in South Korea, the car is legit. If in North Korea, is South Korea responsible for keeping the car from being driven across the border?
Not just a Mercedes, an Armored Mercedes.
They could have leased the car out of a dozen Asian countries, and that would have been totally legal. Plus no one says that it’s a purely ‘new’ car...it might be a car with a thousand miles on it, and resold as ‘used’.
His friends all drive Porches.
Elvis probably gave it to him...
Well, the Mercedes-Benz might be turning heads in Germany but my head is turning at the Ive got more bodyguards than you one-upmanship being displayed. What a display of insecurity and fragility.
He must make amends.
