There’s no accounting for taste with Liberace but Rock Hudson, on screen, at least, projected a charming masculinity. If you don’t believe me, watch Giant or his very funny performances in his Doris Day movies. Gay actors, in his day, could not afford to project any kind of pansy image either on stage or off. That is the very definition of good acting - conforming to the role.
I liked him in Darling Lili too, but I watched it, because I have had a huge crush on Julie Andrews for decades. I especially liked her singing The Girl in No Mans Land.
