I think the official statistic some years back was around 350,000,000 living the high life or US middle class equivalent. But that’s just a drop in the bucket population-wise in China.
Did you know anything about the laws governing rural born Chinese going to the city for work?
I had read somewhere that they have almost no rights in the city; that on leaving a job they must leave the city unless they find other work, and so on.
If you could fill in, it would be interesting as most seem to think in China there is no difference between rural and city born.
Let me tell you a story about China's "official statistics".When I was in Hong Kong a couple of years ago I tried to google "Tienanmen Square" (yes,I checked my spelling).In Hong Kong the only google I could get was country code ".cn"...I couldn't get ".com".Note that ".cn" means China just as ".ca" means Canada.
Well,I got a number of hits on ".cn" every one of which featured beautiful pictures of a serene and majestic square and not a *single* mention of June 1989.
