I knew Rush’s caller was mistaken/wrong, but I looked up a reference on the matter for everyone here:
Title 18 of the United States Code defines a pen register as:
a device or process which records or decodes dialing, routing, addressing, or signaling information transmitted by an instrument or facility from which a wire or electronic communication is transmitted, provided, however, that such information shall not include the contents of any communication, but such term does not include any device or process used by a provider or customer of a wire or electronic communication service for billing, or recording as an incident to billing, for communications services provided by such provider or any device or process used by a provider or customer of a wire communication service for cost accounting or other like purposes in the ordinary course of its business[5]
NSA is collecting that information on EVERY American, every call.
Cohen is not so special here...
Of course you can, just as you can perform a wiretap (listen) without a warrant.
Chaffetz on “the Five” just made a great point. If they have a pen register, they also have a geo locator, so they can track a person’s location every minute of every day and cross reference to other info. It is much more than just metadata..
That is logically consistent with the caller.
He said what you wrote, but added the device that performs the pen register easily allows listening.

You should read it.
I knew they were listening to Cohen. And I knew they were doing so illegally.
A pen register doesn’t require a warrant or a subpoena. Very old school technology, but it is also true that listening/recording equipment can easily be tapped into the pen register.
And doing so is part and parcel of a dirty tricks campaign. It would be more astonishing if they hadn’t listened it.
This may be what Guliani was referencing on Hannity. He was warning “them”. Pretty sure he knows how the game is played.
There is not such thing as a Pin Register anymore.
All the phone switches are digital and solid state. There’s no place to inject another piece of equipment.
And, they are not needed either.
You simply pull the data the switch already collects and stores.

Read it. Worked there. Not new so why bother now with very old news.
They are telling us, they didn’t “listen”, they “monitored”.
Because “listening” would be criminal.

Bingo. Mueller and Rosenstein have shown total contempt for the law. If this device was installed, one can be assured they were also listening. They are criminals with no regard for law. They would listen and then use this as a backdoor for other legal warrants without mentioning how they got the information or lying about how they obtained the information. They do lie with great regularity.

Of COURSE they were Listening!!!! They are listening in on way more than just Cohen!!!
