Dolly was the most heroic, if only for personally rescuing some national treasures from the White House before the British burned it.

“Dolly was the most heroic, if only for personally rescuing some national treasures from the White House before the British burned it.”

Dolly did much more than that.
James Madison was a book worm who was painfully shy. He never mastered the art of politics.

Dolly was the exact opposite.
Very friendly, very aware of fashions and trends she was also constantly aware of who needed to be buttered up or who the president needed on his side at any given time.
She brought those people into contact with her husband by giving parties and dinners l and made sure he was comfortable with them.
No telling how his presidency would have turned out without her.
