If he wants to “save” the paper, then volunteer to work for a 50% salary cut. Any bets on whether he’s willing to do so? He resigned. Doesn't that equate to a 100% pay cut?

That doesn’t save the paper. If he really cares, he’d continue to work there for 50% of his current salary.
