Hawaii is set to become the first state to ban the sale of sunscreens containing chemicals believed to be harmful to the environment. State lawmakers passed a bill Tuesday that prohibits the sale and distribution of over-the-counter sunscreens containing oxybenzone or octinoxate, two chemicals that have been found to "cause genetic damage to coral and other marine organisms."
"These chemicals have also been shown to degrade corals' resiliency and ability to adjust to climate change factors and inhibit recruitment of new corals," the bill reads.
The contamination is "constantly refreshed and renewed everyday" by swimmers and beachgoers, according to the bill. A 2015 scientific paper reports up to 14,000 tons of sunscreen gets released into coral reefs each year.

[[Is anyone here a marine biologist?]]
Nope- not even an army biologist
People cover up far too much with sunscreen. I need sunscreen but I can do one hour in the sun and its good for me. Vitamin d. Thereafter I do need sunscreen but I use mineral sunscreens, using zinc oxide usually.
Some of those chemical ones really could mess with hormones and maybe even increase risk of harm from cancer.
Your health is lucky you sense it. The bad stuff goes right into your bloodstream.
.
Sunscreen has been destroying human’s health for half a century.

YES!
I went to Buck Island off St Croix a couple of years ago. Almost all the coral was dead. Nothing like I remember as a kid. Something is killing the coral.
The solution to pollution is dilution.
Pouring coral-killing chemicals directly onto the coral might have an effect. Smearing a bit of it on your skin and letting it get washed off over an hour is going to kill the coral? That’s just silly thinking just like most thoughts libtards come up with.
Translation: Haoles Destroy the Environment.
LOL!
